This committee is composed
of an independent group of prominent investigators from outside
the institution who are appointed by the Director with the concurrence
of the Executive Committee. The External Advisory Board provides
advice to the Director on important policy, research, personnel,
and institutional matters. The input of these scientists is vital
because it provides a fresh objective viewpoint, which is needed
to keep CURE at the forefront, both locally and nationally. The
committee meets once a year during the time of the spring research
meeting, when the committee members have the opportunity to observe
presentations of ongoing research at CURE. When urgent matters
arise during the year for which this committee's viewpoint is
desirable, as well as for their evaluation and prioritization
of Pilot and Feasibility studies, committee member's input is
sought either by letter or by phone. The Director and Co-Director
are ex officio members of the committee. The chair of the External
Advisory Board serves as a vital advocate for CURE with the Dean
of the medical school and with the NIH.
