Dr. Colicelli investigates signal transduction pathways controlled by RAS GTPases. Dr. Colicelli's identified and characterization RIN1 as a RAS effector. The RIN1 protein signals through RAB5 GTPases that regulate endocytosis and ABL tyrosine kinases that regulate cytoskeleton remodeling. RIN1 can also compete with RAF, another RAS effector, to suppress oncogenic signaling. RIN1 is expressed in all epithelial cell types examined. The protein is also expressed in a subset of CNS neurons and in hematopoietic cells.
